Lloyd, you have my sympathies. Kev and i are wondering about moving from our flat in N7, partly because it’s so tiny, but mainly because the landlord’s rubbish, our rent has gone up quite dramatically, and our contract is one of the most restrictive I’ve ever seen.

Tenants do get an amazingly raw deal here, it’s no wonder everyone wants to buy.

Trouble is, i am not sure where we would want to live, whether to stay in n7 (we have our life set up pretty well here, gym on corner, Waitrose, tube stop, all within 10 mins), or try to get out of london completely. It’s hard to decide, so I have my fingers crossed for you!

I’m in Rochester about 45 mins away from Victoria by train. It has some advantages, as well as disadvantages:
+ Large, tidy 1-bedroom flat with great views of the river, castle and cathedral: £600pcm. I have three parking spaces (that I don’t use)
+ 45 mins to Victoria at about £12 a pop depending on time of day
+ One of the only places left in the South where you could actually consider buying a house
– A bit chavvy, if you mind that sort of thing
– Crap supermarkets (thank god for the Greek and Chinese stores)
– Not very hip.
+/- Loads and load of prostitutes. Even if you don’t like them (I know I don’t!) it means there’s lots of police around night and day which means it’s fairly safe.

Despite the minuses, definitely wouldn’t consider moving back into London for a fair while.

Well, you’re the only person I know who can afford it out west, so good luck to you. But if you can’t, come east. Life is better here.

Actually, I really only commented to say I once skinny-dipped in the fountain at Dolphin Square. I rule.

Join the club. I am moving this easter weekend because the landlord hadn’t paid his mortgage for several months and we are being evicted! Thankfully found another house in the next village along, so that’s where we are headed.

I do think that tenants get a raw deal in this country.
