What would you do if I sang out of tune?

Lloyd busking 018I’m doing a workshop intro to social media for a client at the end of the month and they just sent me through a draft agenda – mine is just one in a series that they’re doing at a two-day staff event. On the agenda mine is entitled “Libraries gave us power” I had no idea what this was a reference to, so I asked and was told that they’d given all the workshops names from song lyrics (mine was apparently from the Manic Street Preachers or some similar popular beat combo – perhaps they think I’m Welsh?) Anyway they also asked if I had a lyric that I’d prefer and so, of course, rather than thinking it through for myself, I asked my outsourced brain, aka my twittermates, to come up with suggestions for me.

They did not let me down.

Phew! I think some people got confused some way in and thought we were looking for music to play, but that’s the way these conversations go. So I think I’ll go with @stml’s suggestion which I’ll expand a little to “I get by with a little help from my friends” thanks James, I owe you one! But there are some other great suggestions in there – I’d love to try “Rabbit” and “Paranoid Android” might have been particularly appropriate for this audience if not the subject matter.

Thank you everybody for contributing – another twitter crowd-sourcing legend for the books.

Hallam Foe redux

hallamfoeI got to see Hallam Foe again last week. Obviously this was pukka film not a video projection and the soundtrack was complete and the titles and credits had been finished off (David Shrigley, omg!), but I was left wondering just how much material difference there was between this version and the one we saw in October. It definitely felt different, but I don’t know how much of that is changes in the film or changes in me. It felt a bit calmer and less raw but nonetheless still a stunning experience. I’m still not going to let on which of Hallam’s *ahem* quirks I have shared, but I can tell you I never fell in love with a girl and followed her home because she looked the spitting image of my mother.

The film is to be released at the end of August – definitely go see.

Hugh led a Q&A with David Mackenzie, Jamie Bell and Sophia Myles. The highlights were twittered Colin Kennedy was filming throughout (though the camera got variously hijacked by Jamie Bell at one point and Catherine Monahan of Orbital Wines at another) Looking forward to seeing what comes of that…

I would have stayed longer at the party afterwards, but my tummy was grumbling and the *nibbles* were just that – aaargh kill the microfood.

Public Policy 2.0

David points to the RSA/Policy Unplugged Conference that’s taking place on Thursday morning. I’m going to be there too, doubtless with recording equipment again – though I share David’s scepticism about how easy it will be to get a word in edgeways with the impressive list of people who are coming to speak about the heady mix of democracy, politics, policy and web-enabled mass collaboration.

It’s free, and it seems there are places left, but you need to register
