Blogging needs links. And a way to help that is to start writing about a link that you’ve just seen, rather than on the ideas swirling through one’s head. That way it has a chance of being a weblog instead of a youlog (which one should obviously reserve for the deep midwinter…)

In which spirit: Complicité have a show about John Berger

There. That feels better.

Ooh ooh. And it reminds me of another one.

Dougald is offering a course looking at Berger and Illich

Both Berger and Illich have their centenaries this year (I’ve suggested that Miles Davis would make an interesting apex to this triangle – we shall see).

Talking of Miles, I hear, from at least one person whose opinion I trust, that the new biopic of Bill Evans is good, if not exactly “enjoyable”.

Saw someone talking about the “Hate Economy” – a good reminder to abstain from “beef-only thinking” as described in The Internet of Beefs (V Rao/Ribbonfarm, 2020)

I’ve got chores to do, we’re going away for a few nights tomorrow.

But also (via Doug Belshaw) Dopamine Responsibly – I love how a 2×2 matrix gets everyone arguing about the placements of each dot rather than the concept that’s being illustrated. Something about clarity, nuance, beefs etc.

PS I don’t usually update posts as much as I have this one, because I worry about how that works with people who subscribe here by email. If that’s you, and you’ve had a horrible experience of this today, please let me know. Or I suppose I could always look up the functionality in the docs… Anyway, sorry if so. I’ll stop now.

Talking Impro with Dougald Hine

The Jubilee JazzmenSince the beginning of this year, Dougald has moved from the periphery of my consciousness, as one of those School of Everything chappies to being an important part of my tuttle experience and a bridge to all sort of other interesting people, places and things.

When he saw me writing about the tuttle consulting work and acknowledging the importance of making it up as we go along, he pointed me to more interesting thinking about the social place of improvisation and we agreed to have a chat sometime and make a little podcast. Great idea. Didn’t happen. Until now.

Here it is:

We thought we’d talk for 10 minutes and ended up at 17. However, so much was left that still needs to be said that I’m sure we’ll do some more sometime.
