Bootstrapping online and offline

When I’m bragging (yes, I’m generally too modest, but occasionally it happens!) that the things I was talking feverishly about 2 years ago are now what make me a living, people often ask “So what are you talking feverishly about now” When I tell them “face-to-face ” they sometimes look a bit disappointed, but that’s really where I think the exciting stuff is going to happen in the next period.

What I’m particularly frisky about is the bootstrap effect – we’ve built a bit of a relationship online, then we enrich that relationship offline and face to face, then when we go back online it’s all been taken forward and we do more new and interesting things together… and so on… and so on… and so on….

So the must-do meatspace convergence points in my diary so far are:

Interesting 2007

Disclosure: each of these events is either giving me a press pass to come and blog or are paying me serious wonga for creating rich records of the day (all except for Interesting2007 for which I’d gladly pay twice the entry fee and possibly don an adult-sized romper suit – but that’s another story)

Surveillance Screening

I’ve been invited to a screening of Surveillance this Saturday (14th April) at midday at the NFT but I have a prior commitment.

According to the blurb the film was well received at the Berlin Film Festival recently and I just spoke to Paul the Director who tells me that it’ll be going to Seattle and Chicago later in the year. I have been given a DVD copy (and watched the first 20 minutes, which hooked me) so I’m going to blog about it when I’ve had a proper look.

If you’d like to go see it (and if you blog about it that would be lovely too) then give me a shout and I’ll put you in touch with the production team.

New Moos

newmooYay! My new batch of moo cards arrived yesterday and here they are. Let me know which is your favourite. I quite like the monochrome ones. The Russell Brand one was clearly a mistake.

I also (thanks to my compulsive RSS reading) got in quickly on the sneak preview of Moo’s new product which should be here very soon, but I’m sworn to blog secrecy about them until their official launch on 18th April.

How many blondes does it take…

Queuing to see WAGsNo, this wasn’t a queue for the Marshall Street Clinic in Soho. Wash your minds out with soap.

There’s a reality TV show (well, ‘reality’ might be stretching it a little) called WAGs boutique being filmed over the road where a group of young women who have some relationship to a sportsman get to run their own fashion business with a shop off Carnaby St. For some reason hundreds of other (presumably less fortunate) young women (and a few guys) were lined up over the street and being admitted in small groups. I assume they are going to have the thrill of meeting some of these superstars and end up on ITV2.

I saw Tamara Beckwith in one of the shops as I passed. I think I’d prefer a trip to the clinic myself.

Your lunch today was brought to you by the letter ‘C’

This plate is brought to you by the letter 'C'This plate is brought to you by the letter 'C'

Today I had lunch at the Stockpot in Old Compton Street. I ordered Chicken Madras and a Diet Coke and got the above pictured Cornucopia of c-word food.

It was a Chicken Curry which included Courgettes, Corn and Carrots, not to mention the Carrots, Cabbage and Chips on the side. Sadly my taste buds were inadequate in discerning how much Cumin or Coriander had been included. In the pictures you can see some of the Condiments also on the table and the second picture has some added Cucumber, offered by my dining partner who’s name *definitely doesn’t* start with a ‘C’.

Oh and we sat in the corner.

UGC at Blogging 4 Business

We’re into the home stretch – I had to drop out after lunch for a transatlantic conference call (daaahlink!) but I’m back in the hall and we’re now having a panel that seems to be about User Generated Content.

Rather predictable stuff. Lawyers are crap at blogging. Reuters have learned something from their photoshopping debacle in Lebanon last year. Euan had a good go at explaining why he’s uncomfortable in the room with all the talk about brands and pushing messages, but I think we’d probably be better off looking at this video and then talking about what we would do if we were at Somerfield.
